Dennis Chambers (b-1959)
When I was a manufacturers representative, another bonus of the Winter Anaheim Los Angeles NAMM were the jazz club opportunities. I attended a few events. The best spot was The Catalina Bar and Grill aka Catalina Jazz Club. Its location says it all---6725 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood California.
I attended several events there, including Pharoah Sanders, Tony Williams and Roy Hargrove.
My first visit was to hear Dennis Chambers. The group featured bassist Cameron Brown. It was Mark Copland’s gig as the leader.
At the time, early 90s, most of what I heard from Dennis was fusion. I’d heard the John Scofield projects. This band was an acoustic piano, bass / drums, but very loud. I remember seeing the pianist Mark Copland, had earplugs.
Dennis Chambers continues to have a very active “live and recording career.
