I confess to be an occasional romantic. I have a short list of tunes that move me like “anyone who had a heart’ especially the Cilla Black version. Is it the chords, the progression, the strings, tempo, odd time changes? Maybe some of that.
Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Dionne Warwick had the US hit in 1964. Cilla Black in the UK. Burt was smart. He’d utilize Dionne and Cilla for other songs including, Walk on By and Alfie.
That’s Burt conducting the Cilla performance. If you enjoy the Cilla video, there’s a great Abbey Road video of her recording Alfie.
The live video version of “Anyone” is quite unique. I like how the drummer plays, not holding back. Or coarse the record, studio version is cleaner.
