I remember hearing this song on the radio. I didn’t recognize it to have Reggae roots. Now I know the rhythm and form from experience.
This song was produced by Earnest Ranglin (1932) whom I’ve performed with. He’s known as the godfather of Jamaican Jazz and ska rhythm. He’s performed with Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, The Skatalites and more.
My Boy Lollipop sold over 7 million records and launched Island Records.
This tune was a one hit wonder for 17 year old Millie Small in 1964. It was released on the Chris Blackwell label.
