1964 - The Shangri-Las / Remember (Walking in the Sand)
Number 53 of 100 on the Billboard Hot 100
I’ve posted and written about some of the non British Invasion artist and bands of the 60s. The Shangri-Las were a girl group with several hits including Walking in the Sand and Leader of the Pack which became a number one song in late 1964. Their songs were usually about loneliness, alienation, heartbreak and teenage angst.
The Shangri-Las were active from 1964 - 1966. The group consisted of Two sisters and identical twins. Mary Weiss was the main lead singer.
Billy Joel is the piano player, so said, age 14.
Evidently there’s a tic-tok version of this, I wouldn’t know.
