Steve Jordan (b-1957) 24th Street Band - John Mayer – Rolling Stones
I saw Steve Jordan with The 24th Street Band. I remember the members to be Will Lee, Hiram Bullock, Steve Jordan. Clifford Carter is the keyboard player listed on Discography information. The event was in downtown Orlando. They opened for Spyro Gyra. Looking at the Spyro Gyra discography…I see that Will Lee and Steve Jordan played on Morning Dance, the second album by Spyro Gyra. This guitar bass drum combination would be the groove for The Late Show With David Letterman.
With Paul Shaffer, that rhythm section was my favorite. I watched Steve Jordan many times perform with various artist on that show. He always uplifted the artist and the song. A couple of my favorites are James Brown, Neil Young and Wayne Cochran. His high cymbal approach is a concept I observed and write about. I also loved that vintage drum sound.
Steve Jordan’s discography is lengthy. In 2021 it was announced that Jordan would replace Charlie Watts on The Stones 13-date US tour. (RIP Charlie Watts)
Thanks to Youtube I followed many post from that tour. Steve Jordan really sounded great with the Stones. Charlie endorsed him for the gig. His great time and groove gives Mick, Keith and the band solid support. Charlie Watts left his mark on all of those tunes. Steve Jordan replicated his feel and sound with his own touch.
I look forward to a new Stones project with Steve Jordan on the session. As an old guy myself, I admire The Stones and their timeless energy. Mick is amazing still doing what he does. Steve Jordan has been a member of The John Mayer Trio for several years.
