Chad Smith (b-1961)
I heard Chad Smith at an after show, private NAMM event in Anaheim/Los Angeles. It was a classy, upscale bar with a nice bandstand, lights etc. The club was probably a popular hang when NAMM didn’t over-run the venues.
It was an unusual event featuring drummers, playing solo. I don’t remember the exact year, early 90s. Sponsored by drum cymbal and percussion manufacturers.
Since this event, I’ve seen Chad play on various drum programs. He is quite a character and plays fantastic. Red Hot Chili Peppers are a great group.
He’s the perfect drummer for their material. Of coarse, he played great for his NAMM solo presentation. Chad’s -one on one- hang and interview with Ginger Baker is classic. I recently watched Chad on a live Internet drum stream. (Drumeo) He played with RHCP tracks. It was very entertaining and educational to see him up close. His high hat style really creates a flowing sound and groove.
