This new discovery of ChatGPT is interesting. It’s exploding all over YouTube with different “influencers” adding their insight and comments. I’ll continue to copy and paste those videos I find enlightening and entertaining.
As someone that dabbles in music, it’s controversial what ChatGPT and ai can do. First, for me, music for the masses is total crap. The, Rihanna’s of the world all sound the same.
In Taco Bell yesterday, they played Hiphugger by Booker T on their musac, BGM, whatever it’s called nowadays. Very refreshing.
People aren’t stupid. There’s a myth that we use 10% of our brain. True or untrue, we certainly have more potential in the field of natural intelligence.
Being kind, I’d say the average listener has a 4th grade mentality. It wasn’t always like this. Technology has created music from a template of plug in sounds, tempos, forms, keys and dynamics.
Classical and Jazz audiences pay to hear something they’re familiar with. Playing new music confuses them, they don’t like it. The hard drive in their brain doesn’t have the space for a new folder.
The ai produced music I’ve seen is horrible. It will be very popular with the world, they’ll accept it. Some say the creative process is the most important takeaway. Why should I condemn or judge because you create something I don’t like?
If I were a John Williams or Hans Zimmer wannabe composer, I’d be concerned. I’ve seen several examples of how easy it is to create scores by typing in a few buzz words.
Pop music is the same. Drum parts, vocals, anything you want. That’s just music.
Creative art designers will really take the hit. Make my photo look like Picasso plugins have been around, but this new ai is much more advanced. Write me a Harry Potter mega hit.
I have not signed up yet to any ai. I may or may not. As a search engine, it is very tempting. I’ll continue to do my work in real time.
Artificial Intelligence is here. Many will make tons of money as “influencers” on YouTube and social media. What starts as a free download becomes a pay to view and use.
I could continue about how lazy we’ve become. Schools don’t teach entrepreneurship or creativity. Later tonight, I’m watching a recent Chomsky interview about ai and education.
As a elementary kid, student in the 50s, I never imagined I’d be typing on my iPad at age 73. I consider myself fairly functional with technology. I know the feeling of being in a creative moment. Bukowski called it, Betting on the Muse. Originality and creative content will deteriorate more with ai.
Just look at YouTube content from influencers. All of the image thumbnails look the same. Self proclaimed creative influencers succeed from copying content. They type in top buzz words to get their next project.
The same process goes for music genre creators. Type in your sound alike word search, BaDaBoom
Maybe, just maybe, there will be more opportunities for true individuals that create original content, without following the herd. I haven’t seen it yet, someone requesting a tune based on Monk, Trane and Ornette. Stravinsky, Ellington Mozart.
I’m not a code person, I’ve seen demonstrations of ai completing code that humans couldn’t complete. ChatGPT spit it out and it worked.
Will content consumers get tired of the ai art, music, books, stories and return to real content from non-artificial intelligent creators? I have zero clue……
