This guy, Jacob Collier, at age 28…if Mozart or the great composers had a MacBook and logic, I don’t think they would create what he has. In this video you briefly see the technology he created for several pieces. It’s unbelievable….
I now remember seeing the jazzers posting his YouTube arrangement of Flintstones, this was several years ago. The video collage of him singing multiple parts….
I haven’t warmed up to him as a live performer, yet. He plays every instrument and it’s very entertaining. I take nothing away from that. I just looked at his tour itinerary, it’s quite full. But, I can’t get over his creative gift as a musician, composer and technology skills.
I’ve never seen anyone, Bernstein, Stravinsky, Glass etc….composers demonstrate with perfect pitch his chord structure, note by note, stacking them and singing in perfect pitch. He also utilizes the scientific tempered tuning system as he desires. Vibrating Frequencies of sound.
As an improviser, his melodica solos go slightly unrecognized. They are as impressive as John Coltrane and Keith Jarrett. Imo
I’m anticipating his career into orchestra compositions. What he does with voice , acoustic instruments and notation software is genius.
