I discovered this video today. I’ve been a fan of The Beatles since they broke into the music business in the USA. I was 14 when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, February 1964.
This video was produced in November 1963. Before they came to America for Ed’s show. There are many things about this I find entertaining and enlightening towards that period in time.
This comedian is great, you have to listen close, or several times. Watching The Beatles, you can see how they borrowed from this style of humorous delivery.
The interviewer is very professional, asking questions and waiting for answers. These are the difference I see in todays world.
Ken Dodd is asked, about The Beatles success, his answer is “they have a gimmick (talent) that says it all.
This program was produced by Granada, a British company I spoke about in my earlier post about the Bob Dylan documentary. Granada is mentioned in that film. They were the gatekeepers of many music groups, including, The Beatles first visit to the US , and the Ed Sullivan Show.
When I was a kid in the 60s, when The British Invasion of music hit America, it was a mystery, the British accents and various geographical locations. Finding these jewels of media on YouTube constructs the historical 60s music phenomenon that happened.
Times have changed……enjoy…..
