1964 - You Really Got Me / The Kinks
I’ll be flashing back to 1964. After The Beatles played on Ed Sullivan, the British Invasion was open. This tune ‘You really got me’ has the distinction of being The Kinks breakthrough hit.
Hearing this on the radio as a 14 year old kid is memorable. Amazing how it was so dynamic coming through a small car or home radio. The distortion guitar sound was created after guitarist Dave Davies sliced his guitar speaker with a razor blade.
Bobby Graham played drums on this track. Not the groups Drummer Mick Avery. Bobby Graham was a great studio drummer and played on many hits from Them-Van Morrison (Gloria and others) The Kinks and The Dave Clark Five hits.
