Enjoyed the video, and well-remember Caldwell and Captain Beyond's first two albums (I even had the original jacket of their debut, with the lenticular print 3-D thingy)! An amazingly creative (and fairly buried in the sands of time) prog band, but much like White Witch (another wildly creative band little-credited, about whom I recently wrote), what the heck were either or both doing on Capricorn Records?!?

I wrote about White Witch's "excuse" for signing with the Macon-based Southern boogie-rock label...in fact, they mentioned two! But, like Captain Beyond, WW ended up after a couple albums and withering sales wondering why they were going nowhere, when all they had to do was look at the beige-colored spinning label rotating on their turntables! I look forward to hearing more from Bobby!

I have both of the Captain Beyond albums (assuming they have just the two) and I want to say I discovered them after reading an interview with Peter Buck from R.E.M. who was a huge fan. I didn't realize they were half from Iron Butterfly though.

And, I'm not sure even THAT's the end of their "star" lineage. After shaking the Wikipedia Magic 8-Ball (and after ignoring its "Not today" message), it seems CB consisted of former Deep Purple singer Rod Evans, and former Johnny Winter drummer Brian Phipps, along with the aforementioned Iron Butterflies! I seem to recall we jocks, at Houston's KLOL, used to play a couple tracks off the first album, particularly the "Dancing Madly Backwards" FM hit. Good stuff!
